Revised 2026
This sixth edition manual is for civil engineers with transportation and stormwater agencies or those who consult on their behalf. The updated manual is informative for landscape architects, urban planners, and contractors.
Readers should be familiar with low-impact development and stormwater management concepts. This sixth edition aligns with ASCE 68-18 Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavements, a national design standard issued by the American Society of Civil Engineers as well as with the AASHTO Guide for Interlocking Pavements and the second edition of ASCE’s Permeable Pavements manual.
The first three documents noted provide structural design methods for supporting vehicular traffic developed by the University of California Pavement Research Center for Caltrans.
Like the previous, this edition is divided into five sections:
- Section 1 provides an overview of PICP.
- Section 2 provides site selection criteria.
- Section 3 provides reservoir thickness sizing for stormwater storage and for supporting vehicular traffic. Detailed inflow and outflow hydrographs can be modeled using CMHAs Permeable Design Pro software or other stormwater models.
- Section 4 on construction
- Section 5 on maintenance are covered in-depth.
