One of the benefits of manufactured stone veneer is the extensive selection of styles and colors. But with so many options, narrowing down the choices may feel overwhelming. Here are a few questions to ask and tips to follow to help make it easier to choose MSV colors.
Note the Existing Elements
Whether this is a new or existing project, you’ll be choosing a color based in part on other areas of the building. What are the materials and colors of the roof, siding, doors, etc.? Do you want the veneer to pop or leave that to the other elements of the home?
These questions will be one of the first things to go over before choosing a color. There are endless possibilities of how you can mix and match with the veneer colors available to you. Some prefer to make the roof, doors, and accents of the home the focal point, while others may want the veneer to be the attention grabber.
What Is the Building’s Style? Take note of the style you want or the design the building already has. Traditional and historic styles often lean toward earthier warm colors and softer or ornate silhouettes. Meanwhile, the contemporary and modern have very neutral and even cold tones paired with geometric silhouettes
Where Is the Project Located?
Location is a key part of the process of choosing a veneer. Not only will it impact the profile you’ll choose, but it will also influence the stone’s shades and colors.
Is this building or home located in a climate with high temperatures and lots of sunlight? You’ll likely want a lighter color to ensure lower energy costs when maintaining a comfortable environment inside. Perhaps the veneer will be placed on a home surrounded by rolling green hills. Do you want it to pop with a bold bright color or to blend in with more subtle natural stone?
Basic Color Families
Here is a basic overview of color families you’ll be choosing from.
Multi-Colored
From more neutral selections to bright natural colors, a multi-colored veneer makes a home fit well into the surrounding landscape.

White/Off White
White, off-white, and cream selections are great for Farmhouses and the most recent Modern homes that have been built since 2020. They give an airy and neutral feel to any home and many like to pair them with dark roofing and accents.
Tans and Browns
Neutrals like tan and brown are classics. They naturally pair well with wood and brick elements.
Black
Dark black shades are often one of the sharpest and most elegant colors, and they can provide a modern and minimalist feel. Black pairs beautifully with large glass windows and lighter-stained wood.
